For over 100 years, the Dzodze Traditional Area has faced a unique and challenging journey. Despite its rich heritage and cultural significance, Dzodze had not been granted Traditional Council status, primarily due to long-standing disputes between the Dzodze-Adagbledu and Ablorme divisions. This protracted conflict saw many governments pass by without resolving the issue, leaving our community without the recognition it rightfully deserved.

In recent years, however, a new wave of leadership emerged, determined to change the course of history. The current crop of chiefs, all legitimately installed by their ancestral lineages, united with a shared vision and the wisdom reminiscent of King Solomon. Under the leadership of the gazetted Paramount Chief, Torgbuiga Dzoku V, they embarked on the ambitious “Traditional Council Must Come Campaign.”

This campaign was not without its challenges. Opponents questioned the capacity and eligibility of Torgbuiga Dzoku V, leading to both verbal and physical confrontations. The Paramount Chief faced numerous threats, including stone-throwing incidents that left police officers injured during a maiden meeting at the Town Council Hall in Dzodze. His home in Dzodze-Adagbledu was subjected to intermittent gunfire and other attacks, driven by disputes over the timing of his installation relative to the final funeral rites of his predecessor.

Despite these harrowing experiences, Torgbuiga Dzoku V and his supporters remained resolute. Multiple attempts to mediate the conflict through traditional rulers, elders, and the Ketu North Municipal Security Council were made, yet no lasting solution was found. Court cases only added to the complexity of the situation.

Amidst this turmoil, many concerned chiefs, elders, prominent personalities, past and present Members of Parliament from Ketu North, Parliamentary Candidates, clergy, and opinion leaders recognized the urgency of the situation. Their collective efforts, driven by a deep sense of justice, aimed to resolve the untenable circumstances that had long denied Dzodze its rightful Traditional Council.

Finally, on May 7th, 2024, the perseverance of these leaders bore fruit. Dzodze was officially accorded the long-awaited and cherished Traditional Council status. This historic moment marked the beginning of a new era for our community, with Torgbuiga Dzoku V installed as the first-ever President of the Dzodze Traditional Council.

This achievement is not just a victory for our current leaders, but a testament to the resilience and unity of the Dzodze people. It is a milestone that honors the legacy of our ancestors and sets the stage for a brighter future. As we celebrate this monumental accomplishment, we extend our deepest gratitude to all those who fought tirelessly to make it a reality.
